With its historic beginnings as a capital of the fishing industry, and then as a world-renowned tourist destination, Percé now shines as an regional artistic center, its spectacular landscapes having inspired the artwork of a great number of artists. It is the city's duty to encourage and promote the artistic development of Percé, thus becoming a cultural beacon for the entire Gaspé Peninsula. Arts and culture are the soul and wealth of any population; governing bodies that have recognized, defended, and supported the arts, have contributed to the enrichment of their cities and the fulfilment of their population. In 2009, City of Percé developed its cultural policy with the help of an advisory committee composed of local artists. This policy will serve as a tool to guide present and future cultural development.

Proud of its artistic heritage, as well as its artists, the city will continue to encourage a variety of cultural activities benefitting the entire community.

The rich built heritage of Percé lies in its inherent symbolic nature. Its buildings exist in perfect harmony between the land and the sea, attracting each summer thousands of visitors in search of sensational landscapes. The Rocher-Percé, the sea, the slopes of Mount Sainte-Anne and Mount Blanc, and the coastline carved by the waves all contribute to the unique nature of the area. The there is a strong relationship between land, sea, and architecture in the natural and historic characteristics of the city. It is important to safeguard the built heritage of Percé, and encourage a more traditional approach to its architecture.

We invite you to take the time to visit this section, whether you are interested in the built, natural, cultural, or human heritage of Percé.
